Brown's alma mater, Winnacunnet, tops the new statewide top 10. The then-No. 3 Warriors last Friday night upset fierce Seacoast rival and then-No. 1 Exeter, 27-24, in Hampton.
As I wrote for the New Hampshire Sunday News, Winnacunnet's ability to beat the Division I champion Blue Hawks was something league rivals Pinkerton (24-20 Week 2 loss) and Central (49-0 Week 3 loss) were unable to do.
The Warriors, in turn, earned all eight first-place votes.
Winnacunnet is home to New Hampshire's No. 1 program for the second time in program history. The Warriors were previously ranked atop the poll for a four week stretch in 2010 (Weeks 4-7).
For the first time this season, all teams in the top 10 a week ago remain ranked.
Week 5 Power Poll - NHIAA football's statewide top 10 entering the season's fifth week, as voted by staff members of the New Hampshire Union Leader, WGIR AM and FM, and WMUR-TV (in parentheses: first-place votes / total points / last week's ranking):
1. Winnacunnet -- 4-0 overall, 2-0 Div. II (8 / 80 / No. 3)
2. Exeter -- 3-1 overall, 2-0 Div. I (71 / No. 1)
3. Pinkerton -- 3-1 overall, 2-1 Div. I (65 / No. 2)
4. Bishop Guertin -- 3-1 overall, 3-0 Div. II (48 / No. 5)
5. Bedford -- 3-1 overall, 2-1 Div. II (47 / No. 8)
6. Manchester Central -- 3-1 overall, 2-1 Div. I (44 / T-No. 6)
7. Concord -- 3-1 overall, 2-1 Div. I (31 / No. 9)
8. Keene -- 3-1 overall, 1-1 Div. II (30 / No. 4)
9. Souhegan -- 3-1 overall, 3-0 Div. III (11 / No. 10)
10. Nashua South -- 2-2 overall, 1-1 Div. I (5 / T-No. 6)
Top 10 consideration - Additional teams that received votes for the Week 5 Power Poll included Plymouth (4 points), Windham (2 points), and Goffstown and Portsmouth (1 point apiece).
Power outage - No teams ranked last week tumbled out of the top 10.
